Job Description:
Job Description Job Summary We, Mark and Amy, are looking for
someone to help care for our adult 20-yr-old son with special
needs. Our son lives on the east side of Madison, WI, and needs
24/7 care and support. Caregiver shifts are 24 hours long (7am to
7am)$600 per shift. Currently, we have the following shift
available: Start: 7am Friday – 7am Sunday (48-hrs). $600/day for a
total of $1200 for the shift. (There are two other caregivers on
our team: one does 3 days; one does 2.) Brian has significant
intellectual deficiencies and behavior disordersand the combination
of the two makes everyday life quite challenging for him. When he
becomes overly confused, overwhelmed, frightened, or frustrated, he
may escalate into a meltdown or panic attack. Caregivers must
remain calm, patient, and able to use supportive strategies to help
him return to a regulated, comfortable state. NOTE:
Attacks/episodes typically include yelling, crying, and pacing but
could potentially escalate into more aggressive behaviors such as
pushing or hitting. Individualized training on who Brian is and how
to best support him will be provided PRIOR to working with him. In
addition, safety protocols are in place in order to provide the
best possible living and working environment possible for everyone.
People often ask “how often” or “how bad” meltdowns/episodes occur
or are. Most honest answer is that it really is hard to say for
sure b/c it depends on so many factors. It can range from 0-2/week.
Brian's diagnosis: X-LID (x-linked intellectual disability). He is
very mobile and verbal - similar to a 3-6 yr old in terms of
abilities and activities Kind, gentle, and polite personality; no
manipulative behaviors Brian sleeps through the nightabout 10
hrs/night Responsibilities Remain attentive and supportive at all
times Prepare and assist with meals Maintain cleanliness of living
spaces through light cleaning duties Document daily activities
Communicate with us and other caregivers in order to provide the
best continuity of care possible - transparency is KEY!
Requirements Ability to appear calm, cool, and collectedespecially
in stressful situations. Clean driving record with a reliable car
to drive places with Brian (mileage will be reimbursed) Must be
able to speak clear and fluent English (Brian doesn’t understand
those who speak with strong foreign accents) Must be willing to
have a background check run This role is vital in supporting
Brian's physical and emotional well-being. Anyone who has
