Job SummaryThis position is responsible for the supervision and ensuring that fabrication, extrusion, & Injection molded parts are of the highest quality while using the most cost-effective methods to maximize productivity outputs. Leads & coordinates production activities directed at continuous improvement. These activities are to be conducted while ensuring & improving safety, product quality, production output, housekeeping & cost control to achieve plant goals. Directly responsible for ensuring accurate recording of factory data for the company & corporate systems. This may include liaison with cost accounting, Engineering & other departments as required to help ensure inventory & BOM accuracy.Location: 740 Baxter Lane, Winchester, TN 37398 USAPrincipal Responsibilities:The following are accountabilities & responsibilities of the job but are not limited to.

  • Ensure schedule attainment is achieved as planned for all departments.
  • Identify, accurate & report variance on off schedule conditions.
  • Follow-up & react to non-conformances identified including machine adjustments & corrections, trouble-shooting machines, & preparation of Maintenance Work Orders.
  • Plan & forecast work requirements according to production schedule.
  • Train employees to be pro-active with material, equipment, health & safety.
  • Establish & implement local controls for, equipment, component & packaging controls, documentation, inspection & test (including status), handling, storage, & preservation, & non-conforming materialwith the Plant Management.
  • Ensure that the Disposition, Hold, & WIP areas are accurately maintained & coordinated.
  • Conduct safety meetings as set out by the HSE Coordinator.
  • Ensure that appropriate health & safety controls are implemented.
  • Provide ongoing training to employees as required.
  • Actively promote & encourage employee participation in our Lean Program.
  • Check & monitor the employees are following & documenting as per I.S.O. procedures.
  • Ensures employees are held accountable & support departments are used efficiently & harmoniously.
  • Ensures knowledge & appropriate implementation of SOPs.
  • Apply Refusal to Work Procedure when applicable (Reference ISMS 48.0).
  • Participate in continuous improvement by providing suggestions & participating in management meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend Management Training as defined & requested in the SMS & the plant training matrix.
  • Implement corrective actions as assigned arising from HSE activities. Communicate actions taken or reasons action has not been taken to affected employees & managers.
    • Apply disciplinary procedures when deemed necessary for Hamilton Kent employees. Provide coaching & counsel direct reports as required.
    • Maintain acceptable housekeeping & organization standards.
    • Ensure direct reports receive employee orientation & required training in areas of Health & Safety, Quality, & ISO procedures upon being hired. Conduct job specific orientation.
    • Ensure policies, procedures & work practices as outlined by the HR Best Practices & SMS are always followed.
    • Participate in quarterly employee meetings in the area of Health, Safety & the Environment.
    • Conduct Accident/Incident Investigations.
    • Perform other duties as directed by the Production Manager & Plant Manager.
    • Ensures a healthy & safe working environment for all employees.
    • Responsible to help sustain, enforce, & continually improve the 5S program
    • Manages staff activities to ensure that the products manufactured daily meet quality & budget as set by the daily schedule.
    • Identifies performance & quality issues & formulates action plans to resolve problems as variances occur. Requires subordinates to follow all provisions of operating instructions. Monitors quality of output & takes appropriate action, including shutdown of process, to prevent or limit production of out of spec product. Conducts, & assists others in conduct of, investigations to resolve causes of quality defects.
    • Understand & follow federal, provincial & local health & safety legislative requirements.
    • Comply & enforce with Hamilton Kents Occupational Health & Safety Policy as well as relevant procedures/work instructions/safety rules
    • Conduct Health & Safety orientation sessions for all new or transferred employees.Complexity & Judgement
      • Regularly encounters differing complex problems within various production areas, i.e., fabrication, extrusion, injection molding, which requires judgement to analyze & identify alternative course of action where established procedures/policies may not exist & then apply new solutions or applications.
      • Dealing with the different personalities of the employees is an issue. Every person must be approached individually but equally. Understanding & dealing with the different personalities creates a challenge.
      • Work involves both routine & non-routine tasks requiring different & unrelated methods within authorized limits.
      • To ensure that a quality product is received by our internal & external customers & that the product conforms to Hamilton Kent as well as third party standards.Contacts
        • The incumbent interacts daily with the Plant Manager, Production Manager, Quality Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, Shipping Supervisor, & Plant Employees. Interacts as required with the HSE Coordinator, Operational Excellence Manager, Process Specialist & Administrative employees.Working ConditionsIncumbent spends almost 100% of his time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of moderate physical labor. The majority of the work involves lifting, pulling, pushing heavy objects (20-50 lbs.), standing & walking. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels & the use of equipment such as sharp blades & extruders. Considerable amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace & unpredictable workflow brings considerable stresses to this position.RequirementsRequirements
          • Completion of College or University is preferred combined with over three years of supervisory/management experience in a related industry is required.
          • Knowledge of rubber extrusion, equipment & machinery combined with experience in a rubber manufacturing environment is preferred.
          • Knowledge of fabrication, extrusion, injection molding equipment & machinery combined with experience in a rubber manufacturing environment is preferred.
          • Must be able to use or can be trained on various types of measuring tools related to our gasket manufacturing process.
          • Excellent leadership, problem solving & trouble shooting skills.

          • Effective communicator
          • Knowledge of computers - Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Outlook.
