Job Description:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Advise and collaborate in designing flock health, vaccination and coccidiosis control programs
  • Lead efforts in improving poultry husbandry and animal welfare
  • Assist in cross training of flock supervisors in poultry health, welfare and husbandry
  • Collaborate with Director of Hatchery Services to develop and implement hatch quality programs
  • Collaborate with Broiler Departments in litter management, ventilation and brooding to ensure good chick quality and poultry livability
  • Develop a working knowledge of industry benchmarking reports, and how health programs impact this ranking
  • Collaborate with nutritionist on feed programs, with responsibility for VFD compliance
  • Evaluating feed programs is high priority
  • Assist in managing the company's animal welfare program
  • All other relevant projects and duties as assigned
    Job Requirements:
    • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with further poultry studies acquired through formal training or through demonstrated work experience in the poultry industry
    • Must hold a state license to practice veterinary medicine and be an USDA APHIS accredited food animal veterinarian
    • After joining Koch Foods, the veterinarian will need to gain licensure in TN, AL, GA, and MS
    • Poultry industry live operations experience
    • Knowledge of poultry industry & Certified Humane standards
    • Organized and able to work independently
    • Tremendous communication skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent technology, computer, math and analytical skills
      Physical/Environmental Factors:
      The position will maintain an office in a Koch Foods facility in the Southeast, centrally located to the company's broiler production and processing. Travel is required with this position, with approximately 50% overnight travel.Typical office environment within a live operations setting:
      • Use of computer, telephone and other office equipment
      • May encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day
      • Regularly required to sit, talk, and listen
      • Repetitive hand motions, and occasional standing, walking, reaching, and lifting up to 20 lbs
      • Exposure to significant amount of airborne dust, chick down and feathers
      • Exposure to chicken manure and associated odors, including ammonia
      • Travel to facilities as requiredTypical field environment within a live operations setting:
        • Walk, stand and perform physical labor majority of shift
        • Frequently stoop, kneel, crawl and bend
        • Exposure to significant amount of airborne dust, chick down and feathers
        • Exposure to chicken manure and associated odors, including ammonia
        • Exposure to temperatures ranging from 60 to 105 degrees, and humidity up to 100%
        • Exposure to seasonal weather conditions, to include inclement weather
