The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Space and Launch division is seeking a highly motivated Structural Analyst Engineer (Level 1) to perform detailed structural analysis to provide solutions to key challenges for the Space Launch System (SLS) program, as well as provide support to multiple commercial and government programs. The In-Space Vehicles organization manages the company's major commercial and government space launch, satellite and ground programs for communications, national defense and other missions. This position will perform detailed structural analysis, including stress, fracture and fatigue assessments, work with product designers and verify structural integrity using analytical methods, finite element models/simulations and other analysis tools throughout the product life-cycle to define and assess the structural environment, characteristics and performance (NASTRAN, PATRAN, CREO-Simulate, Common Structures Workstation, and home-grown tools). The analyst will need to have knowledge of structural analysis and design support activities as well as verification methods. Defines and documents analysis, certification and test results to substantiate for customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied. Works with team members and technical leads to develop integrated analysis projects and other teams to provide efficient and robust solutions. This position is located in Huntsville, AL. Position Responsibilities : Performs detailed structural analysis to determine structural integrity (margins of safety), using classical techniques and Boeing tools, to support drawing release, establishes maintenance/inspection programs and supports the Manufacturing Review Board process. Integrates component-level structural math models and performs integrated analysis, using finite element methods, to develop internal loads and stresses in order to verify structural integrity. Performs structural analysis and provides expertise to respond to customer inquiries, develops service bulletins, investigates failures and coordinate with regulatory agencies, to maintain continued airworthiness/mission capability. Guides structural design and configuration development. Performs trade studies to optimize structure and meet program requirements. Documents structural analyses and data, required to show compliance with Boeing, customer and regulatory requirements, at a component level. Develops, deploys and supports in-house and commercial application software to enable efficient performance of engineering tasks to reduce cycle time and drive product improvements. Researches and prepares data to support definition of structural design requirements. Researches new technology applications, new product designs and structural life enhancement concepts, to improve products at the program level. Develops test plans, conducts pre-test analysis, monitors tests, analyzes and correlates test data, and documents results, to develop and certify structural concepts, investigates failures and develops material allowables. Supports Integration and Test by assessing out of spec conditions and providing recommendations in a timely manner. Work Authorization : This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a ---US Person--- as defined by 22 C.F.R. -- 120.15 is required. ---US Person--- includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility. Access to the facility requires a background investigation by U.S. Government authorities. Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience) : Bachelor---s degree within Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Discipline. College coursework and/or work experience in Structural Analysis. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience) : Masters degree or higher in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering discipline preferred. Experience using NASTRAN/PATRAN or similar FEM software to perform structural analysis on aircraft or space structures. Experience with structural analysis methods and repair principles (e.g., fatigue and corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, repair techniques, damage tolerance methods used in maintenance programs). Experience with Space Launch systems. Experience effectively communicating and collaborating on multi-discipline teams Typical Education and Experience : Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard. Relocation : This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
