building software-defined radios that change how our military
communications, our Information Systems team helps life run
smoothly and safely.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's
Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Communication Network (GCN)
Development team. The team develops infrastructure solutions that
meet customer requirements and ensures compliance with DoD
directives such as 8510.01 and NIST 800-53 (RMF) to include the
tactical system and development environment.
The Principal Cyber Systems Engineer will provide support for the
development team in designing, implementing, and integrating
Microsoft Windows Server platforms into virtualized environments,
with specific focus on Microsoft RDS, Active Directory, WSUS
Patching, and PowerShell Automation. Role will require the
implementation and maintenance for RMF compliance, and in the
development and interpretation of cybersecurity requirements as
part of the Information Technology (IT) acquisition development
process and assisting with the formulation of cybersecurity/IT
budgets. This position is not limited to, but intended to focus in
the area of Windows system design and Tactical/Enterprise hardening
of infrastructure components.
Cyber process / policy documentation will be generated and / or
modified in this position. Customer interaction and/or presentation
may also be required. Therefore good written and/or verbal
communication skills are very important for this team.
The primary responsibilities of this position includes working as
part of a team to: Analyze, estimate, validate and report to all
levels from peers to senior decision makers on the design of
Windows Server platforms. This position will perform and/or
evaluating vulnerability assessments on server components/systems
utilizing approved government provided configuration guides
(STIGs). The candidate must interface with: system architecture
design teams (with an emphasis on program network architect
interaction) to provide feedback on system requirements; operations
and support organizations to coordinate and perform regular cyber
assessments. The performance of these tasks will identify
deficiencies as well as potential improvements to the existing GCN
design and its ability to integrate with other GMD components. This
position has the potential for opportunities to participate in
projects concerning one or more of the following areas: Software
Assurance, Site Assessments, Program Protection Planning (PPP),
and/or cyber system trade studies for various system

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule
allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday
to take every other Friday off.
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on
qualifications listed below.
- This position may be filled at either a Principal Cyber Systems
Engineer or Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer level.
- BQs for a Principal Cyber Systems Engineer: requires 5 years
experience with Bachelors; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD;
4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- BQs for a Sr. Principal Cyber Systems Engineer: Bachelor's
degree and 9 years of relevant experience; or 7 Years with Masters;
or 4 Years with PhD. An additional 4 years of experience may be
considered in lieu of a degree.
- Active Secret clearance
- This task requires technical knowledge/experience in Windows
Server 2016 and Windows Authentication (Active Directory).
- Ability to obtain DoD 8570 baseline certification for an IAT
Level II (COMPTIA Security+ for example would be ideal here) within
six (6) months of hire
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Missile Defense experience
- DoD 8570 baseline certification for an IAT Level III (CCNP
Security for example would be ideal here)
- Server Hardening and Vulnerability Management experience
- Experience performing security audits (reviewing network
security log files / configuration files for anomalies)
- Knowledge of the Systems Engineering Life Cycle
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (both verbally
and in writing) with team members, managers, and customers on
complex and difficult engineering/software issues pertaining to
