Earth. As part of a diverse, passionate, and hardworking team of
engineers, you will be the System Architect for a portfolio of
complex and diverse space- and human-certified engine systems. You
will guide multi-disciplinary teams to align the engine system
architecture with customer and company strategies, products, and
technology maturation plans. If you are adept at managing to a
plan, comfortable responding to evolving requirements or external
constraints, and prioritizing efforts all the while infusing and
facilitating creativity and innovation, you will share in the
team's impact on all aspects of vehicle development and
verification. In this role, you will be part of an organization
whose responsibilities include:
- Working with emerging and existing advanced concept program
organizations to distill high level requirements into rocket
propulsion system derived requirements
- Trading engine cycle types and quantities, propellant choices,
engine configurations, and overall arrangement of components for
the best overall, optimized solution with early assessments of mass
properties and historically based cost estimates
- Working closely with systems and component design engineers to
rapidly assess conceptual designs, perform system trade studies,
develop integrated design solutions, formulate system margin
strategy and performance parameters
- Assessing needs to onramp lower TRL technologies, and the
respective cost and risk benefits
- Maturing and publishing the system-level architecture, such as
thermodynamic states and operational modes, functional flow block
diagrams, and data flows
- Developing and maturing Level 1 Engine System Requirements and
verification methodologies as well as risk assessments,
collaborating with the Systems Engineering organization
- Perform Mission Analysis with a propulsion focus, flying the
vehicle/stage/spacecraft across the mission conops to optimize
engine design characteristics
- Coach, mentor and technically assist other engineers
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, electrical, or
aerospace engineering or equivalent technical field
- 5+ years proven experience in the design, development, and
flight operations of liquid rocket engines (level commensurate upon
experience)
- Proficient in the challenges, technologies, and historical
system solutions endemic to the space environment and have
knowledge in several subject areas such as propulsion, fluids,
avionics, thermal management, mechanisms, control systems
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident
(current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as
a refugee or granted asylum Desired:
- Experience with proposal support and leadership
(technical/management volumes, Task Description/Basis-of-Estimate
development, etc.)
- Experience working with U.S. Government research agencies (e.g.
NASA, AFRL, DARPA)
- Experience with fault-tolerance strategies and architectures
for safety and mission-critical systems
- Experience with development for space-flight environments
- Experience developing requirements, defining subsystem
interfaces (both in-house and between external partners/suppliers),
and other systems engineering products and practices
- Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design
through field support)
- Proficient with modeling tools and scripting languages such as
MATLAB/Simulink, ROCETS, or similar
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and
JIRA
- Proven understanding in the use of 3-D CAD tools (Creo is
helpful) and configuration and data management software (Windchill,
JAZZ)
- Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management
