Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will work with the Launch Vehicle Stage Adapter (LVSA) design and analysis teams to develop processes, plans, procedures, and documentation for testing, and will assist the quality team in development of inspection and delivery documentation for the LVSA.

The Mechanical Engineer will be expected to work under the supervision of the LVSA Chief Engineer and management team to develop the following:

Qualification/Test Plans, Procedures, and Reports

Stationed Drawings

Inspection Reports

Flight hardware Stacking/Shimming Procedures

In addition to these tasks, the Mechanical Engineer may be asked to assist with design or analysis for future spaceflight hardware, ground support equipment, or support systems, and may be asked to provide inputs to proposal activities.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years professional experience
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other technical discipline
  • Experienced with development of technical documents and reports
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office products
  • Good communication skills to explain work products and plans to company management and customers
  • Familiarity with common manufacturing processes
  • US Citizen

Preferred

  • Experience with CREO CAD software
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software such as Windchill
  • Skilled in preparing drawings to ASME Y14.100 (or equivalent)
  • Skilled in the application and understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5M-1994)
  • Experience with NASA requirements for spaceflight hardware
  • Good understanding of real-world inspection methodologies and their associated limitations and advantages, and how applied GD&T translates to inspection requirements and ultimately part cost
