Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking an Engineering CAD process technical leader to join our growing team in Huntsville, AL. This senior leadership position is a great opportunity for an innovative, creative thinking, mechanical engineer who is interested in moving into a technical leadership role. In this role, you will perform a variety of CAD Services and Design Standards leadership tasks on fast-paced solid rocket propulsion development and production programs. This position supports the defense Design Engineering organization and reports directly to the Aerojet Rocketdyne Enterprise Senior CAD Services Manager.

 

This current opening may be filled at this level as posted or at one level higher.


With minimal direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments, this position performs engineering design assignments for preparation of engineering design document and maintaining the design disclosure. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Assignments require broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty and good knowledge of principles and practices of related specialties.

 

60% - Primary responsibilities are the leadership of CAD process using Creo and Windchill platforms. Implement existing standard CAD processes on programs working closely with CAD design user community and management leadership team. Individual must be able to provide clear direction and strong technical leadership to accomplish complex model based CAD designs, associate Product Definition, Engineering Bill of Materials (WTParts) and systems integration tasks for solid propulsion products. Must drive innovative solutions to deliver high quality on-time Product Definition to meet program schedule milestones while minimizing mission risk. Provides staff mentoring and career development opportunities to increase versatile system and component design capability across programs

 

20% - Provides integrated product teams with CAD Process Design leadership and support to assure product designs and product definition meet program requirements, AR design procedures, CAD standards and Aerospace industry best practices. Perform Product Definition quality verification and deep dive interrogation of complex datasets to bring into compliance or adhere with AR standards and CAD/PLM Process quality standards.

 

20% - Implements creative solutions for CAD process improvements, tools, standardization and training as needed to streamline Enterprise design costs for programs while also reinforcing design to cost and re-use when possible. Expected to help develop and drive Model Based Definition practices in design and across the enterprise and supply chain. Innovating new methods of model based definition that drive digital factory solutions are required to help drive company affordability and quality goals.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline and 9 years of mechanical CAD design experience or a combination of education and experience.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.  Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

  • Expert level Windchill PLM Systems and integrated CAD systems knowledge and application.
  • Expert level user in the use of Creo CAD Design tools (version 5 or higher). (Greater than 10 years of continued high end use preferred)
  • Engineering bill of material management (WTPart) and association with Creo CAD Structure
  • Support creation of Creo standard parts and bulk items for enterprise library reuse.
  • Strong leadership skills. Able to correct, coach, drive, and motivate staff members through informal and formal mentoring.
  • Strong communication and listening skills. Communicates clearly with team members and individuals at all levels and disciplines, including senior management.
  • Strong project management background with proven ability to drive and execute projects.
  • Working level knowledge of industry product definition standards such as ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and tolerencing and ASME Y14.41 Model Based Definition.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience managing and leading design standards and creating followership within the engineering organization.
  • Working level rocket propulsion design and systems integration experience a plus.
  • Experience with closed room PLM CAD data management systems and methods to integrate CAD data between unclassified and classified datasets.
  • Experience developing CAD design best practices, and training materials, and provide instruction on the proper use of design tools.
  • Individual who is willing to try new things to improve design methods and processes
  • Experience implementing MBD product definition methods with manufacturing and quality organizations as well as with the supply base.
  • MBSE - Model Based Systems Engineering experience a real plus.
  • Windchill multi-CAD management experience, such as Creo & NX.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling discipline tools such as MS Project.
