We have an exciting opportunity in our Aerospace Systems Engineering organization for a System Simulation Manager in Huntsville, AL. This position is expected to provide both management oversight to a team performing modeling and simulation support to a variety of systems including small satellites, missiles, and projectiles as well as perform modeling, simulation, and analysis tasks as a key technical contributor to one or more projects. The System Simulation Manager reports to the Sr. Manager of Aerospace Systems Engineering within the GA-EMS Aerospace Systems Engineering directorate.


  • Provides direct supervision and technical leadership to a team of engineers with expertise in modeling, simulation and performance analysis for hypersonic vehicles, missiles, powder gun launched and railgun launched projectiles, and small satellites.
  • Plans and leads team through execution of trade studies to define design and performance requirements for subsystems such as attitude determination and control systems, seekers & guidance systems, navigation systems, aerodynamics/airframe, propulsion, datalinks, fire control sensors, etc.
  • Plans and leads team through execution of analyses to assess weapon performance parameters such miss distance, keep out distance, engagement angle, etc.
  • Plans and leads team through surface danger zone analyses to support range safety activities at national test ranges.
  • Assists in the supervision and technical leadership of a team of engineers with expertise in guidance, navigation, flight controls, mission planning, and fire control as related to hypersonic weapons, missiles, projectiles, and small satellites.
  • Personally executes simulation development, modeling, and analysis tasks as a Simulation Lead on one or more projects.
  • Provides technical mentoring to less experienced staff members.
  • Ensures GA processes are understood and followed by staff members.
  • Supports the Aerospace Systems Engineering Senior Manager in reviewing, interviewing, and selecting candidates to enhance the group?s skill depth and breadth.
  • Coordinates with other functional managers and program managers to assign appropriately skilled personnel to tasks.
  • Supports interactions with internal and external stakeholders and customers to identify user needs.
  • Develops staffing/resource plans, individual development plans and goals, performance appraisals, performance improvement plans, etc.
  • Performs weekly time card review/approval and other functional management duties.
  • Supports the development cost/technical/schedule status reports, program management reviews, etc. in support of ongoing projects.
  • Provides leadership and technical oversight of the development of flight vehicle 3-DoF and 6-DoF simulations, subsystem and component models of varying degrees of fidelity, and system simulations.
  • Provides leadership and technical oversight for simulation configuration control and the development of simulation documentation for the tools, models, and algorithms being developed.
  • Drives rapid resolution of delays that impact systems analysis activities.
  • Communicates effectively in real-time with leadership.
  • Collaborates daily with GA personnel across all functional disciplines as well as customer representatives.
  • Develops subcontractor statements of work and coordinates with subcontract administrators.
  • Supports proposal development through contributions to technical volumes, cost basis of estimates, work breakdown structure development, schedule definition, and peer reviews.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as nine or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least three of those years having management or team leadership responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Must possess an active DoD Secret security clearance, with the ability to upgrade to Top Secret, if required.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of and experience with the development of 3 Degree of Freedom and 6 Degree of Freedom models and simulations and their use for analysis of missiles, projectiles or satellites.
  • Strong capabilities in programming languages/tools such as FORTRAN, C, C++, Python, Matlab is required.
  • Experience with the design, build, integration, and test of missiles, projectiles, or small spacecraft is desired.
  • Expertise and experience with fire control, mission planning, and battle management systems is desired.
  • Experience in guidance, navigation, and control is desired.
  • Experience with AFSIM, EADSIM, or other mission/campaign level simulations and analysis tools is desired.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging threats such as Integrated Air Defense Systems, tanks and other armored vehicles, jammers, cruise missiles, hypersonic weapons, etc. is desired.
  • Knowledge of fire control sensors, radars, datalinks, and battle management systems is desired.
  • Ability to provide oversight of System Simulation personal and tasks across multiple programs and quickly change between them based on dynamic priorities.
  • Must have thorough understanding of engineering principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
  • Able to work extended hours and travel as required. Travel Expectations: 10-20%
