This position is with Diatherix Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics which is located in the Hudson Alpha Institute, Huntsville, Alabama. Diatherix Eurofins Clinical Diagnostics is a highly-specialized laboratory providing cutting-edge molecular diagnostic testing services to hospitals and physicians using proprietary TEM-PCR (Target Enriched Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction) technology for precise detection of infectious diseases at high levels of sensitivity and specificity, and at very short turnaround times.

Job Description The Scientific Director provides scientific vision, content and oversight to the organization’s operations. The Scientific Director is responsible for the organizational development and leadership of innovative scientific and clinical strategies to support and drive the business forward.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Responsible for the organizational development of innovative scientific and clinical strategies to support and drive the business forward.

· Provide guidance and leadership to R & D staff in the development of molecular assays designed to diagnose an expanding menu of infectious diseases in the clinical environment.

· Collaborates with Laboratory Director, Senior Management, and Eurofins Management in the future development of molecular assays and other new technologies.

· Ensures that the organization is staffed with innovative scientific leadership and technical personnel appropriate for current, short term and long term strategic developmental advances.

· Provides leadership, guidance and resources to maintain an organizational culture of innovation and advanced scientific and business acumen.

· Interfaces with scientific and clinical leaders to stay abreast of relevant current and forward thinking strategies.

· Fosters and environment of innovative thinking.

· Ensure that all necessary remedial actions are taken and documented whenever significant deviations from the laboratory's established performance specifications are identified and that patient test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly

· Oversee the development of the organization's plans and programs in evaluation of long-range planning and regulatory action on operational performance. Foster a unified culture and promotes a process for collaboration, cooperation, sharing of information and mutual teamwork

· Monitor utilization patterns of lab services and advises Leadership and other appropriate staff of developing trends in clinical service needs

· Ensure operational adherence to currently accepted technical service standards for laboratory medicine

· Ensure operational adherence to applicable policies and procedures by all technical and operational staff

· Participate in the development and implementation of operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements

· Perform other duties as required

Qualifications Relevant Doctoral degree in a clinical and/or scientific discipline. Extensive and diverse experience in scientific and clinical laboratory medicine and related clinical and scientific disciplines

An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image

· Knowledgeable of academic medical settings and a proven track record of successfully working in such settings

· A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus

· Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to the Board and other stakeholders.
