This role will be r esponsible f or the project & design
engineering support related to all Rockets and Components business
unit production and development programs, internal research and
development and new business pursuits for our Huntsville,
AL/Williston, VT/Anniston, AL/Springboro, OH locations
Major Position Responsibilities Promote, develop, and model a
culture of proactive and respectful collaboration with business
leadership and functional peers at all levels within the Rockets
and Components business unit and across the GD-OTS business.
Maintain close contact with the Program Management, Quality &
Operations and be their partner in program execution (unit managers
being their first-tier partners) and establish and maintain a
similar partnership with Business Development.
Technical expert and leader in the business. Determines the
technical approach, applies creativity and advanced concepts in
Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and
application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and
practice as well as project and/or program leadership including
organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to
meet established project deadlines or milestones.
Significant experience in Failure Reporting Analysis and
Corrective Action System (FRACAS) development, leadership and
execution with focus on failure analysis and root cause
determination of production and test issues. Strong interpersonal
skills for building Failure Analysis teams that can successfully
identify technical, process, and organizational root causes and
corrective actions is required in a timely and cost effective
Demonstrated use of manual and software tools, models and
methodologies for FRACAS activities (i.e. 5–why, ishikawa, 8d,
FMECA, fault tree, pareto, and other data analytics).
Working manager mentality with strong leadership capabilities to
lead small teams to resolve engineering challenges quickly and
effectively while following a rigorous process.
Strong understanding of systems engineering processes, concepts
and methodologies for new development and support of production
Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities
including development of technical reports, white papers,
management presentations and substantial technical interface with
customers and major suppliers.
Mentor for engineering staff to grow future program and business
unit engineering leaders.
Maintain Engineering's technical compliance on all programs and
compliance with GDOTS policies and procedures.
Advise on technical issues, plans and risks and play a role in
keeping tabs on the activities of competitors in our market
Proactively partner with Business Development and Program
Management to position for and win new and follow on business.
Work closely with Programs and Business Development in
generating the 5-year Strategic Plan
Promote and execute IRAD plans and projects and B&P efforts
as requirements dictate.
Participate as a member of the senior leadership at Huntsville
Operations and within Engineering across GDOTS.
Proactively involve production Operations across the Rockets and
Components business in the design of new products and continue to
support them through the transition to production and beyond with
Define and execute continual improvement projects that improve
capability, performance and cost across the Rockets and Components
Lead special projects as assigned
Manage engineering staffing needs to support programs and to
work with others in Engineering to ensure that the program staffing
needs are met.
Human resources responsibilities: administration, training,
compensation, recognition, motivation and evaluation of direct

personnel development plans and to have adequate resources on hand
or available to support programmatic needs across the organization,
