  General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.
  
  We currently have an exciting opportunity within our Flight Software Design Engineering group for a Missile Flight Software Lead Engineer to support a missile system development program. The Missile Flight Software Lead will work from our Huntsville, AL location coordinating with lead engineers from other disciplines and subsystems while providing direction to the flight software team through all development phases of the missile system.
  
  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES:
  • Directs and allocates technical resources and professional staff to achieve project technical objectives.
  • Assess and/or develop requirements, and design, implement, integrate and test missile flight software and associated products.
  • Primary point of contact for the missile flight software development with overall understanding of team status, plans, and issues.
  • Supports planning, budgeting, and status of flight software tasks and activities related to the missile development project.
  • Facilitates rapid resolution of technical delays that impact tasks including real-time, thorough communication with the chief engineer, program management and other IPT Leads as required.
  • Collaborates daily with GA and customer engineering and program management teams.
  • Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required.
  • Support development, review, and editing of technical documents as required.

    Job Qualifications
    • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
    • Electrical or Computer Engineering or related engineering field is preferred.
    • US Citizenship is required.
    • Must possess DOD Secret Security Clearance, with ability to upgrade to Top Secret if needed.
    • Strong embedded software development discipline is a required.
    • Embedded C/C++ programming experience is required.
    • Experience working with custom hardware, reading schematics, and working with hardware designers is required.
    • Must have demonstrated technical and personnel leadership and experience estimating resources and schedules for technical tasks.
    • Must be a resourceful "self-starter" capable of researching details of target processor hardware and interfaces.
    • Must have experience and/or aptitude that demonstrates the ability to technically lead a team developing and testing custom embedded systems, with a solid understanding of the software/hardware interface within a complex system.
    • Experience with missile avionics flight code is highly desirable.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
    • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
    • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals; the capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
    • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self- initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required. Travel Expectations: 25%
