Job Description:
nPurpose of Position:nTo direct the day-to-day functions of the
Aides/Orderlies and nursing staff, as well as give direct nursing
care to patients. This position is also responsible for planning,
organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of
education programs for facility staff in accordance with current
existing federal, state, and local standards, and established
policies and procedures of the facility.nnDescripnntion of Required
Duties and Tasks:nEssential duties and responsibilities include the
following. nDirect the day-to-day functions of nursing aides and
nursing staff.nnnGive direct nursing care to patients.nVisit all
assigned patients at regular intervals during a tour of
duty.nSupervise feeding of patients as necessary.nNotify physician
when patients condition warrants.nPerform administrative duties,
such as documenting:no Nurses notesno Doctors ordersno Discharge
plansno Dietary changesno Reportsno Evaluationsno Studiesno Billing
and other charge slipsno Miscellaneous forms, charts, etc.nnnChart
pertinent facts and information in a professional, clear and
comprehensive manner.nAdmit, transfer and discharge patients
according to policy.nRecognize and respond to changes in patients
conditions and document observations, interventions, and
outcomes.nnnOrder from a pharmacy, prepare and administer
medications as ordered by a physician.nEnsure that physicians sign
off on all verbal orders and document processes.nConduct and/or
monitor prescribed treatments, such as dressing changes, drawing of
blood, catheter changes, NG tube insertion and removal, laboratory
work, etc.nnnGive and receive condition reports from the on-coming
and off-going shift.nPerform emergency procedures, such as
cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and in the event of death, notify
family and appropriate other parties.nnnRecognize, intervene and
report accidents and incidents when they occur.nMonitor and update
care plans on each shift as appropriate.nMaintain records of
patient accidents and incidents and provide in-services to reduce
accidents and incidents.nnnAttend and participate in monthly and
quarterly infection control, safety, and quality assurance
meetings.nRecognize, intervene and report accidents and incidents
when they occur.nParticipate in surveys made by authorized
government agencies.nSupervise and participate in fire safety and
other disaster drills and be prepared to carry out duties in the
event of an actual event.nnnRecognize, intervene and/or report
complaints and grievances from patients, families, visitors, and
employees.nMonitor the facility for possible health and safety
hazards.nMaintain privacy and confidentiality of records,
conditions, and other information relating to patients, employees,
and the facility.nnnFollow the established universal precautions
and isolation procedures.nEncourage an atmosphere of optimism,
warmth, and interest in patients personal and health care
needs.nnnRequired Skills:nUpdate daily census report and submit as
required.nnnAttend and participate in orientation programs, ongoing
training, and educational classes.nInventory and request equipment,
supplies, etc.nAssist in updates of written policies and procedures
of routine nursing care.nParticipate in surveys made by authorized
government agencies.nnnAdmit, transfer and discharge
patients.nMonitor and participate in daily clean-up of the nurses
station.nPerform other related duties as assigned by
