As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for Materials & Processes tasks related to Valves and Mechanisms for spaceflight systems, with a focus on rocket engines. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of material characterization, supporting design for producibility, and new material development.   • Deliver direct materials and processes support to designers of valves and mechanisms in rocket engines including material down-selection, material property testing, selection and characterization of specialty engineered forms, and program decision support.
  • Provide broad materials & processes expertise related to metallic materials (e.g. forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, brazing, anodization, passivation) and non-metallic elements (e.g. o-rings, seals, lubricants).
  • Collaborate closely with design, analysis, manufacturing, quality, and integration engineers to select effective material systems meeting design requirements.
  • Review production drawings for large complex assemblies, and creating associated qualification artifacts documenting that component designs and specifications meet requirements.
  • Interface with and audit suppliers to ensure materials and processes of sourced materials and components meet design and qualification requirements
  • Lead and coordinate internal and external Materials & Processes functional improvements
  • Identify technology gaps in materials and processes used across valves and mechanisms, implement development plans to improve technology readiness for future designs.Qualifications:
    • 2+ years directly related experience
    • Minimum B.S. in Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
    • Hands on experience measuring, analyzing, developing, characterizing nickel, aluminum, steel, and copper alloys
    • Proven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes.
    • Familiarity with standard methods for testing mechanical properties (including fatigue, fracture, creep, stress rupture) of metallic and soft materials
    • Strong written and personal computer skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylumDesired:
      • Masters or PhD in Material Science/Engineering or related field
      • Experience as a Materials and Processes signatory authority on a flight production program.
      • Strong fundamental understanding of the behavior of materials, particularly with respect to operation at cryogenic temperatures and in high vibration environments.
      • Experience with cryogenic fluid, hydraulic and pneumatic flow systems and controls
      • Familiarity with oxygen compatibility of materials and design for oxygen compatibility
      • Familiarity with analysis, testing, and mitigation for hydrogen embrittlement
      • Hands-on laboratory experience with SEM, EDS, metallography, mechanical testing.
      • Demonstrated experience developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones
      • Familiarity with ambient, elevated temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing
      • Experience with failure analysis and forensic investigation
      • Experience with statistical analysis methods and related tools
      • Experience with statistical analysis for preparation of design allowable material properties
      • Experience with supply chain management
      • Proven experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, resources, and managing budgets.
