Visit our website at for more information on how our employees Power the Future.Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Industrial Engineer to join us at our Huntsville, Alabama, Camden, Arkansas, or Orange, Virginia location.The Senior Industrial Engineer is responsible for characterizing optimum factory / warehousing operation. The position defines solutions and develops ways to increase productivity, maximize efficiency, and manage human capital effectively. The position reports to the enterprise Director of Industrial Engineering - Scheduling & Material Planning. Primary responsibilities include studies and methods for improvement of manufacturing throughput, optimizing warehouse utilization, kitting, and material management, scheduling & performance accuracy, and business process development. The Senior Industrial Engineer performs a variety of assignments of diverse scope and complexity, works under limited general direction, and exercises considerable latitude in determining methods and approaches. The Senior Industrial Engineer functions as the prime contact for assigned initiatives and interacts with individual contributors as well as Director or Senior Director-levels of leadership. The position may provide guidance to more junior team members. The position will include occasional business travel to one or more Aerojet Rocketdyne facilities within the United States. Approximately 12-15% travel expected.The preferred candidate will be comfortable working with limited instruction, collaborating with a variety of internal stakeholders to gather inputs and design solutions to achieve desired goals and objectives. Must thrive on taking initiative. Works tactically while also steering overall projects / initiatives. This position may be filled at this level posted or one level higher. Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)45% - Optimize Manufacturing & Warehousing Throughput & Utilization

  • Layout of equipment / racks / shelving, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency.
  • Develop manufacturing methods and labor utilization to promote efficient staff, facility utilization, and scheduling activities.
  • Study operations sequence, material flow, and manufacturing waste to increase throughput.
  • Assess utilization of existing footprints; design solutions to optimize utilization & provide simple CBAs to enable capital planning decisions45% - Improve Scheduling & Performance Accuracy
    • View system as a whole. Asses manufacturing sequences, lead-times, shop floor capacity planning, and area performance to optimize workflow schedules.
    • Use rough-cut capacity planning models, area layout, and SIOP process to support program onboarding or offloading activities.
    • Identify system level production constraints and design solutions to resolve constraints10% - Business Process Development
      • Assist in development & continuous improvement of Site / Enterprise-wide Industrial Engineering - related process standard work
      • Mature standard lead-time and target review processes in alignment to MMAS and best practice
      • Standardized manufacturing performance reporting with ability to reconcile with program planRequirementsRequires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and five (5) years of experience in a directly related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Practical experience / knowledge of:
        • Project Management w/ Business Acumen
        • Work measurement studies (manufacturing standard work) and basic statistical techniques
        • Performance measurement systems
        • Material handling, inventory control, and production planning
        • Application of Lean tools & methods to provide business insights
        • Technical acumen of manufacturing & support processes & work environments
        • Understanding of MRP systems, shop order routings, & resource attributes (including performance, efficiency, & yield factors) Ability to:
          • Interpret and evaluate data and processes
          • Communicate technical information to a wide audience both verbally and in writing
          • Use various computer systems to produce reports and spreadsheets
          • Comfortable working under limited instruction or guidance to achieve goals and objectives
          • Establish working priorities, plan projects, and organize resources
          • Travel up to 15% (U.S. locations)May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Proof of vaccination or an accommodation request approved by Aerojet Rocketdyne will be required prior to starting employment with the Company.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentThe work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
