Dynamics Engineer uses modelling and simulation to help prevent
catastrophic collisions between separating rocket components of
NASA's SLS. From booster separation, to liftoff clearance, to
separations in space, this position will require a well-rounded
background of dynamics modelling skills, experience with computer
programming, and the desire to perform high fidelity analyses to
help prevent damage and destruction of the involved NASA
systems.The Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) Guidance,
Navigation, and Control (GN) team is a high performing group
executing challenging tasks to design and integrate GN systems for
NASA projects ranging from NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) to
NASA's Human Lander System. We are searching for highly qualified
candidates to support NASA's Flight Dynamics Team in the Guidance,
Navigation, & Mission Analysis branch at NASA's Marshall Space
Flight Center. This exciting work will serve as a critical step in
sending humans back to the Moon, Mars and beyond!Job Functions:
Analysis of launch vehicle and spacecraft multi-body dynamics,
equations of motion, and trajectories to assess contact and
clearance during liftoff, separation, and jettison events Modeling
ascent and in-space environments, errors, disturbances, GN
algorithms, sensors, actuators, and mechanisms Simulate and analyze
nominal, contingency, and failure scenarios during ascent and
in-space flight Develop algorithms and tools to analyze6 DOF
trajectories for separations and recontacts Execute/modify existing
software/scripts in Python, Matlab, Fortran, C++ Generate
requirement specifications for separation systemsQualifications
Qualifications:A degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a
related field is required. A degree from an ABET-accredited
university preferred.Typically, educational requirements are the
equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 19 years of experience,
Masters with at least 23 years of experience, or BS with at least
25 years of experience. Strong communication, interpersonal skills,
and independent problem solving are required. Familiarity with
Monte Carlo, design of experiments, and statistical analysis is
required. Strong proficiency in programming, especially with C,
C++, Python, or MATLAB is REQUIRED. Strong proficiency in technical
writing and technical presentations is required. Broad knowledge
across multiple GN disciplines, including flight mechanics, 3 DOF
and 6 DOF simulations, orbital mechanics, guidance, navigation, and
control, is desired. Experience with multibody dynamics and orbital
mechanics as applied to spacecraft, launch vehicles, or similarly
complex systems is desired.The Jacobs Space Exploration Group
