systems, tactical systems and armaments areas, in support of
domestic and international markets.Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a
Senior--Engineer Structures & Dynamics Engineer for
our--Huntsville, AL location. In this role you will perform
structural analysis to verify product designs meet structural
performance requirements.This position may be filled at this level
as posted or one level higher. Essential Job Functions (Including %
of Time for Each) Working under limited general direction:60% -
Perform structural modeling of rocket motor hardware components:
- Conduct closed form solutions on metallic and composite
hardware and solid propellant grains , to structurally analyze
joints and preliminary size components for pressure and thermal
gradient boundary conditions. Materials will be a combination of
isotropic, viscoelastic and composite. Thermal gradients and
pressure distributions, as well as specified mechanical loads for
these models will be provided by other analysis team members.
- Use solid CAD models provided by other team members, to
generate FEA mesh in ANSYS, or ABAQUS. The above loads and
pressures will be used in these models.
- Perform static structural analysis and assess operating
- Generate and provide analysis reports and presentation
materials to analysis team and customers documenting FEM and
analysis results.20% - Report status and results of analysis tasks
at design and program reviews.20% - Prepare technical reports
documenting all analysis activities. Requirements Requires a
Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of directly related
experience.May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security
Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S.
Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able
to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government
information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from
being able to meet this requirement.Additional Requirements and
- Master's degree strongly desired. PhD a plus.
- Experience in performing linear, non-linear and dynamic
structural analyses supporting design, development and production
qualification for solid rocket motors desired.
- Experience using finite element analysis tools such as ANSYS
- Experience with ANSYS Mechanical APDL programming desired.
- Knowledge and experience with aerospace product development
efforts a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and
PowerPoint) is expected.
- The ability to coordinate with other team members for loads and
an understanding of customer specified aerospace structural
requirements is required.
- An ability to analyze static & dynamic loads, material
nonlinearities and structural instabilities is required.
- Experience with analysis, design, manufacturing and test of
filament-wound composite case pressure vessels for solid rocket
motors is strongly desired.Work Environment and Physical
Requirements:Employees in these positions must possess mobility to
work in a standard office setting and to use standard office
equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain
attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally
lift/carry/push/pull up to 15 pounds; may require minimal walking,
climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read
printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to
communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the
ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal
protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop
coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and
hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the
