General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power systems. GA-EMS expandi portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide. We have an exciting opportunity for a Component Engineer to join our EMS team in Huntsville, AL. GA-EMS requires a Component Electrical Engineer to support energy industry products including Gulftronic electrostatic separator systems, radiation monitoring systems, high speed electric motor development, and our Advanced Launch and Recovery Equipment products. The position is focused 50% or more on component obsolescence and requires professional experience in that area. In addition, the position requires an engineer with a solid theoretical and practical background in electrical engineering, with exposure to mechanical engineering and products, and who is adaptable to a wider range of tasks and is able to function effectively in an engineering resource role within a matrix organization. Duties_And_Responsibilities * Sourcing electronic components for existing and new products, packages and electronic subassemblies. * Finding replacements for obsolete electrical components and updating current designs. * Use of Bill of Material (BOM) obsolescence analysis tools. * Researching, comparing and selecting components for product sustainment and improvement. * Providing electrical engineering support, particularly for component specs and selection, for commercial GA products, and for GA power conversion R & D projects. * Performing calculations and evaluations in the application and design of electrical equipment and systems for industrial and commercial applications. * Understanding/interpreting existing electrical and general engineering documentation. * Collaborating with EMS manufacturing engineers to find optimum design for manufacturing solutions. * Using document and product management software (Windchill, IHS, SILICON EXPERT and SAP) to access required specifications, procedures and documents. * Updating product documentation to reflect design changes. * Preparing BOE s and schedule inputs to Program Office for new project and increments of funding. * Travel to GA manufacturing facility to provide engineering support. * Performs other duties as assigned or required. Job_Qualifications * Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education. * US Citizenship is required. * Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is preferred. * Familiarity and experience with sourcing issues for electronic and mechanical components. * Experience with BOM obsolescence analysis tools. * Thorough understanding of surface mount (SMT) manufacturing equipment, processes and electronic component packages. * Fluency in electrical and electronic documentation standards. * Experience with high power (> 10kW), high voltage (> 1kV) power systems desirable, including power supplies and power conversion. * Desirable to have Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design and manufacturing experience. * Ability to troubleshoot electronics issues using scientific principles. * Deep understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience with a wide variety of applications of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties. * Ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems. * Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas. * Capability of representing the organization as a prime technical * Ability to understand new concepts quickly. * Ability to organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases in cooperation with Program Management Office, Configuration Management and Engineering leadership. * Experience in a hardware manufacturing environment, supporting and sustaining manufacturing engineering, materials planning, and purchasing. * Able to work extended hours as required.
