We are looking for student trainees in the area of civil engineering. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities - You will work under the guidance of and will assist engineering professionals in non-routine and progressively responsible duties which are directly related to your academic studies and occupational career goals. - You will perform well defined tasks in various aspects of an engineering occupational specialty. - Your specific duties will be dependent upon the occupational specialty that corresponds to your college major in preparation for more difficult tasks as a professional trainee after graduation. S. citizen or national. - Enrolled/accepted in an accredited educational institution. - Pursuing a degree. - Maintain enrollment at least half time as defined by the institution. - Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9 on a 4.0 scale. - You will be required to undergo a pre-employment background investigation. - You will be required to sign a Pathways Participant Agreement. - Available to work at least 640 hours prior to completion of degree. - You must meet eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement. - This appointment will start no earlier than January 21, 2020 and no later than August 31, 2020. - Candidates who indicate an availability date in the NASA Supplemental Questionnaire after August 31, 2020 will be found ineligible. - Applicants must have an expected graduation date of no earlier than one calendar year from this closing date of this announcement. - Candidates who indicate an expected completion date in the NASA Supplemental Questionnaire that is prior to one calendar year from the closing date of this announcement will be found ineligible. Qualifications Starting GS grade levels are determined by education level: GS-04: Enrolled in a certificate program or associate's or bachelor's degree program and have completed at least 30 semester hours or at least 45 quarter hours of undergraduate education. GS-05: Enrolled in a certificate program or bachelor's degree program and have completed at least 60 semester hours or at least 90 quarter hours of undergraduate education. You will only be considered for the highest grade for which you qualify. Education The following major is preferred: Civil Engineering Additional coursework may be required for conversion. Degrees in engineering technology are not qualifying for this position. Engineering degrees must be from a college or university school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. A rotation is a defined period of work or school study, usually a semester, a summer, or a quarter in length. If an Intern is converted to a term appointment, they may later be converted to a permanent appointment without competing. Additional coursework may be required for conversion. The Intern may be converted to a Civil Engineer position with promotion potential to the GS-13 level.
