Position Title: Department Head and Professor - Computer Science
The Opportunity: The Department of--Computer Science--at Colorado
School of Mines--(CS@Mines)--invites applications for--a tenured,
full professor to head the--Department.--Applicants must have a
Ph.D. in--Computer Science--or a related field, and a proven track
record in teaching, research and service. Administrative experience
and evidence of successful personnel and financial management are
required. Inspiring leadership qualities, enthusiasm, effective
interpersonal communication and organizational skills--are a must.
Successful candidates are--expected to operate in a transparent,
ethical and collegial manner and--should be responsive to the needs
of--faculty, staff, and students within the Department. They should
also have a strong commitment to enhance diversity and inclusion.
Experience teaching and working in an academic--environment is
highly desired, and--experience working in or with industry is a
plus. Successful--candidates--will--work effectively in a
collaborative, interdisciplinary environment within the Department,
across the Mines campus, and with external partners to: (1) provide
leadership to enhance the mission and activities of the Department
by fostering a vision and strategy to strengthen its research and
teaching and to enhance collaboration with other programs across
campus; (2) oversee management of the Department, with budgetary
responsibilities for strategic, academic, and operational
development; (3) promote and support continued professional growth
of faculty and staff, in particular in the area of educational
innovation; (4) facilitate a world-class environment for research
in--Computer Science--with active collaborations with academia,
industry, and government agencies;--(5)--administer and lead the
renewal of curricula and teaching activities of academic and
adjunct faculty; (6) represent the Department to the university
administration, other university units, industry, and to public and
private agencies at the local, regional, national, and
international levels; (7) oversee recruitment of world-class
faculty, and facilitate professional development, and retention of
faculty, staff, and students; (8) lead fund-raising to support
departmental activities, (9) prepare --and manage department
budget, and (10) teach courses, advise graduate students, and
maintain a leading international research program.--Successful
candidates are expected to share in our mission to address the
challenges of creating a sustainable global society by educating
the next generation of engineers and scientists, and expanding the
frontiers of knowledge through research.--We are especially

Golden, CO: Colorado School of Mines, Colorado's oldest public
university,--is located in--picturesque Golden, Colorado, in the
foothills of the Rockies, 13 miles west of Denver and 21 miles
south of Boulder. Mines has 4,908 undergraduate students and 1,262
graduate students in a broad range of applied science and
engineering disciplines. Annual research expenditures in Fiscal
Year 2020 was -$73M. Mines has the highest admissions standards of
any public university in Colorado and among the highest of any
public university in the U.S. Colorado School of Mines was ranked
the No. 4 best engineering college in the United States by Money

Department, which is currently ranked by U.S News & World Report as
68 th in Computer Science, has 13 tenured/tenure track faculty, 4
teaching faculty, and 2 Professors of Practice, and offers B.S.,
M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science.--CS@Mines--currently
has approximately 780 undergraduate and 110 graduate students and
is the fastest growing department on the Mines campus. The
Department has been working to increase its research activities and
currently has annual research expenditures of -$182K per
tenured/tenure-track faculty on average. CS@Mines has also been
working strategically to implement activities that are known to
broaden participation in computing. In five years, (1) the
percentage of women majoring in CS@Mines increased from 12.7% to
21.8% (a 71.6% increase) and (2) the percentage of students from
underrepresented groups majoring in CS@Mines increased from 13.9%
to 21.5% (a 54.7% increase). The number of total, women, and URG
computing majors increased 4 fold, 10 fold, and 12 fold,
respectively, from Fall 2008 to Fall 2020. Because of the positive
