biotechnology and basic biological research to make important
discoveries, improve human health, stimulate economic development,
inspire young people to seek careers in science and teach members
of the public the importance of science in their everyday lives.
Located in Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, Alabama, one of
the world's leading science and technology parks, HudsonAlpha's
campus contains state-of-the-art laboratories for biological
research and development, as well as education, in the areas of
genomics, genetics and personalized medicine.DEPARTMENT OVERVIEWThe
Finance Department manages all aspects of the financial operation
of the Institute, including grant and general accounting, financial
reporting, budgeting, forecasting, accounts payable and receivable,
and audit relations. The department also oversees financial
reporting for the HudsonAlpha Foundation and all financial aspects
of shared services, including cost centers and purchasing.An
additional focus of the department includes accounting for the
Genomic Medicine program, which includes the Smith Family Clinic
and the HudsonAlpha Clinical Services Lab. The department is also
responsible for cash management and all financing for all of the
entities.The HudsonAlpha Institute seeks to bring research
developments to the marketplace. Because funding sources and
requirements vary between research projects, the Research Finance
function of the department must review each project independently,
seeing that regulations are met and that related costs are recorded
appropriately. This includes calculating and applying all indirect
costs to applicable grants.In providing this service, the Finance
Department provides valuable data for future financial projections
that will assist in evaluating feasibility and economic potential
and ultimately fulfilling the economic development aspect of the
HudsonAlpha mission.POSITION SUMMARYThe position will ensure the
integrity of information by recording, verifying, and reconciling
payroll transactions. The Associate Accountant will be responsible
for processing the Institute's payroll and compiling payroll data
to maintain accurate payroll records to ensure that all employees
are paid in an accurate and timely fashion.JOB-SPECIFIC
TASKSMaintains knowledge of rules and laws which govern payroll
administration practices and ensures organizational compliance with
federal and state regulations.Screens time-worked inputs for
calculating, coding, or other errors on timesheets.Generate and
process electronic timesheets and manual timecard adjustments to
include vacation accrual, reviews timesheets for accuracy.Tracks
and determines regular and overtime pay, and factors
incentive-based bonuses into employee's salary.Prepares and submits
401K transactions.Audits payroll information for accuracy,
reconciles records, and updates payroll procedures as
necessary.Prepares payroll reports.Completes various payroll/labor
tasks and additional projects, as assigned.Maintains a high level
of customer service and is available to address any payroll issues
in a timely and professional manner.Tracks and records spending
within the flexible spending account.Posts all payroll and
labor-related entries to the general ledger.Process and post cash
receiptsCreate, send, and post invoices.Month end closing
activities.Ability to interact with customers regarding bill
payments and report status to supervisor.Process and send out
invoices for work performed and record the applicable accounting
transactions within the accounting system.Understanding of
accounting principles related to the following:Accounts
receivableFixed assetsPrepaidsIntercompany accountingRevenue
recognitionSupport annual auditOther duties as assigned.EDUCATION
AND REQUIRED SKILLS EXPERIENCEEducation and Experience:Bachelor's
degree, preferred.Minimum three (3) plus years' experience in
payroll.ADP payroll processing experience desired.Deltek
Costpoint/Time & Expense experience required. Proficient with MS
ExcelAbility to work independently.Self-StarterAbility to set and
respond to changes in prioritiesMAC proficientRequired
Skills:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a
customer service and confidentiality focus.Basic knowledge of
payroll, garnishments, federal and state labor regulations.Detail
oriented and organized.Ability to meet assigned deadlines.Basic
analytical skills with attention to detail. Ability to grasp
